Taurine one of my favorite amino acids to offset the challenges of a stressful lifestyle.
Here is an amino acid I love to use in the evening to assist in relaxing the mind as well as aiding sleep and reducing anxiety. All though technically taurine will not assist in sleep, its anxiety reducing capabilities will relax the brain enough to assist in sleep.
Taurine is one of the inhibitory amino acids in the body and can assist at reducing over excitation in the brain. Think, reduced anxiety and increase GABA, the neurotransmitter that regulates and keeps in check excitatory neurotransmitters. Basically, that means it will help you “come back down” from being too anxious or “up”.
Taurine has been associated with reducing blood pressure, increasing GABA, and reduce depression.
Depending on a patient’s level of anxiety and stress as well as the results from a neurotransmitter test I perform with patients called “The Braverman Profile” I will prescribe typically, dosages around the range of 2-6 grams per day.
